Summer is in full swing! This time of the year can be hard for some people to stay on track, especially with the afternoon BBQ’s, weekends at the beach, and 4th of July celebrations. While it’s tempting to obsess over the stifling heat and having a bikini-ready body, panicking won’t get you very far. Instead of fearing you will get off track or getting down on yourself, put these tips into action! You can sustain your healthy lifestyle through the summer months too.

1. Start and end your day with water.

Start everyday with a glass of H2O. When you wake up, drink water (even before your coffee). Not a fan of plain water? Add some fruit, lemon or mint to give your water some flavor. And then repeat before bed or an hour before bed. Drinking water is one of the best tips for not only a healthier summer, but all year long!PRO TIP: End your evening with a soothing caffeine free herbal tea. Sipping tea helps the body to wind down and will help it to detox while you sleep.

2. Avoid empty calories.

When it comes to snacking, the struggle is real. Don’t run to the vending machine or snack stand when you are on the go. Plan ahead! Want crunchy? Trade chips for nuts or rice cakes. Want sweet? Trade candy for fruit. Want creamy? Trade ice cream for non-dairy yogurt. Want a drink with flavor? Trade that juice for water infused with berries, citrus, melon, or mint. Planning ahead can help you enjoy more quality calories.

3. Make a meal menu.

After making decisions all day, the last thing I want to do is decide what to eat. Somewhere between realizing you forgot to thaw the meat or your produce drawer being empty, you may find yourself just ordering a pizza and resolving to bake that chicken tomorrow. Planning your meals and setting reminders can help you to stay on track. The best part? When Friday arrives and you don’t feel like cooking dinner again, hopefully you will have some leftovers from the previous days in the fridge. Another perk of the FASTer Way… you are given a weekly plan to follow along with a grocery list! #nobrainer

4. Get out there.

Exercise is vital, yet many people think of it as a chore (especially in the heat). You do not need an hour to get a good workout in! Set aside 20-30 minutes to exercise, or move your body each day. Whether it is inside at the gym, at home or an early morning walk to beat the heat, you will never regret moving your body!

5. Have the right mindset.

This is your journey. Now is the time to set goals for yourself. I learned that it was best to set small goals. This way, I would reach the marks that were required to accomplish the bigger goal. You can do it too! Decide, today to become your best self. Make summer your season by following these 5 tips. There you have it! These are 5 tips for a healthier summer for you to take on.
